STANDINGS, POINTS SYSTEMS AND ELIGIBILITY
The following outines how each of the V8Thunder standings are produced:
Drivers
Drivers standings are calculated using the current NASCAR scoring system (185-170-165-...-40-37-34) with bonus points added for leading a lap and leading most laps and penalty points deducted where applicable.
Teams
Team standings are calculated using the current NASCAR scoring system (185-170-165-...-40-37-34) with bonus points added and penalty points deducted. Each team is scored according to its two best placed finishers only. Additional team finishers and independent drivers are temporarily removed from the race results with remaining drivers moving up to fill the gaps.
Who is a team?
If two or more drivers sign up for a particular series at the start of the season to race for the same team, then this team will be included in the team standings. A team can consist of a maximum of four drivers. Additional drivers must be entered with a different team name.
What about drivers who change teams mid-season?
Teams will always score according to their current drivers. If a driver changes team mid-season, he will no longer contribute to his old team's points, but to his new team's points instead. Any points he had contributed to his old team are banked, however, and will not be transferred to his new team.
Independents
Independents standings are calculated using the current NASCAR scoring system (185-170-165-...-40-37-34) with bonus points added and penalty points deducted. Non-independent drivers are temporarily removed from the race results with remaining drivers moving up to fill the gaps. Therefore, the best placed independent driver would be placed first, the next best would be placed second, etc.
Who is an independent?
An independent driver is a driver who is racing alone in a particular series, with no team support or teammates. This isn't to say he has no teammates in V8Thunder, just that none of them race in a particular series. Once a driver has been designated as an independent, this status cannot be changed, even if teammates join the series or the driver joins an existing team during the season .
Rookies
Rookie standings are calculated using the current F1 scoring system (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1) with no bonus points added or penalty points deducted. Non-rookie drivers are temporarily removed from the race results with remaining drivers moving up to fill the gaps. Therefore, the best placed rookie driver would be placed first, the next best would be placed second, etc.
Who is a rookie?
A rookie is a driver with no/limited experience in a particular series. When a driver joins a series for the first time, they will be considered a rookie for the current season. If they joined the series in the second half of the season, they will also be considered a rookie for the following season (unless they win the rookie title in their part-season).
Nations
Nations standings are calculated using the current F1 scoring system (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1) with no bonus points added or penalty points deducted. Each nation is scored according to its best placed driver only. Additional nation finishers are temporarily removed from the race results with remaining drivers moving up to fill the gaps. As an example, if Scotland finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in a race, it would be placed first; if England finished 4th, it would be placed second, etc.
