29 Jul 2010 - Indycars :
The high speed multi discipline Indycar series made it's debut at V8 Thunder last Monday with a double header at Portland International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway. At Portland a bizarre set of circumstances led to Carlos Caldas taking victory in the opening round. Ian Smythe lead the first 9 laps until blowing his engine, Dariusz Maksajda then took over the lead position before relinquishing it to Jack Keithley on lap 18, but as soon as Keithley got into the lead his clutch failed letting Maksajda back past to presumably cruize to victory, however in a cruel twist of fate Maksajda also blew his engine literally coming through the last corner in sight of the finish and was left to coast over the line while Caldas nipped past for the win.

Homestead was a far less hectic race, after an initial 2 early yellows to clear up after Keithley crashed in turn 4 on the opening lap and to sort out a restart problem, the race run for 41 laps under green with the top 4 swapping places almost every lap, the top 4 never being separated by more than a few tenths at 220mph! A late race yellow saw the race end under caution, with Dariusz Maksajda making up for the heartache of Portland by taking the win, Ian Smythe was second with V8 debutant Alex Arzamasov finishing the top 3. Dimon Borisoff and Paulo Duleba had V8 career best finishes with 4th and 5th respectively and Andrew Jones rounded out the top 6 after picking up damage avoiding the opening lap accident.

The series returns next Monday for it's only double length race of the season at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
28 Jul 2010 - Trophy :
After two weeks racing in the English Countryside at the Rockingham Motor Speedway and Mallory Oval, the Trophy series returns to it's American routes next week at the Lady in Black - Darlington Raceway.

Chris Hill snatched victory from Jack Keithley at Rockingham with a bold move on the last corner of the last lap to take victory by just 0.27 seconds after 119 laps, Mathieu Souphy made it an SRD International 1-2-3 by rounding out the podium in 3rd. Keithley made up for the Rockingham loss at Mallory a week later taking victory by 0.56 seconds from Jim Turner with Ian Smythe back 7 seconds in third.

With 6 races down and 6 to go, Keithley holds a 73 point lead over Andreas Scholz in the standings, with Rookie of the Year leader Dariusz Maksajda 3rd and Independent leader Ian Smythe 4th overall. WTR Motorsports Jim Turner and Paulo Rocha round out the top 6.
01 Jul 2010 - Trophy :
Andreas Scholz scored his maiden V8Thunder victory at Daytona International Speedway this evening, in only his 14th V8Thunder start, the German bringing his Ford home from 22nd starting spot. Tennessee County resident and series returnee Thomas Hendrickson came home second, with fellow American Jim Turner rounding out the top 3.

The race was looking to be a fuel economy competition until a late race multi-car crash (involving Alex Pab, Chris Hill, Jack Keithley and Ian Smythe) appeared to change thing, however officials didn't throw a caution and it was back into fuel economy mode for the top 6 where most either run out on the last lap or opted to pit with 2 to go to ensure they finished, Paulo Rocha was the main looser opting to pit for fuel which dropped him back to 5th, Smythe came home a "lucky" 4th after his trip through the infield while Keithley recovered to 6th after his infield flight 6 from home, Chris Hill lost out most, the race leader at the time of the incident slipped to a 9th place finish after smacking the inside wall following the contact with Pab which triggered the crash.

It' a trip over the Atlantic this week as the series visits the United Kingdom for back to back English races at the Rockingham Motor Speedway and the Mallory Park Oval the following week.
24 Jun 2010 - Trophy :
Jack Keithley scored his second triple at Nashville on Thursday, taking the pole, fastest lap and race win in convincing style, Portugal's Paulo Rocha pushed the English ace hard in the closing stages to bring his WTR-P car home second, with sister team WTR-E's Andreas Scholz bring his Germany based Ford home Third.

Clashing World Cup football saw a reduced field of 18 drivers race, but there was still 11 lead changes between 7 of them. As winner Keithley put it, onto the lottery that is Daytona next week...

18 Jun 2010 - Trophy :
Jack Keithley scored the triple in style at Memphis Motorsports Park, starting from pole the Ipswich racer came from 2 laps down to take fastest lap on his way to Victory Lane. Lothian's Yosh Hughes came home second with rapid Polish rookie Dariusz Maksajda in third, but crucially Maksajda finished without penalty points, while Hughes picked up a minor penalty for a spin early in the race, this means there are just now 5 points separating the two. 25 drivers started the event with 11 lead changes between 8 of them.

It's back to another cookie cutter that thinks it's a short track this week when the tour hops across the Tennessee County to the concrete laden Nashville Superspeedway.
11 Jun 2010 - Trophy :
With reigning champion Jack Keithley absent it was anybody's guess who would win Round 1, and after nearly 200 miles of racing Yosh Hughes (started from pole) took victory in the first round of the Summer 2010 Trophy Series at the Kentucky Speedway, with Dariusz Maksajda second (from 7th) and Andreas Scholz (from 12th) rounding out the podium.,

Hughes's vMaxSR team mate Sergey Rebrov came home fourth from starting 5th with reigning Truck Series champion Ian Smythe picking up a 5th place finish after starting 19th. For Hughes, who joked he grew a beard during the race it was so long, it was clear indication that he and the fresh vMaxSR team would be a force to be reckoned with this season after several in the wilderness. AJI's Andrew Jones should have taken pole but was denied it after his time was disallowed by Race Control for speeding on pitlane during his run so he started 22nd and followed Smiff home in 6th.

The race had 25 starters and saw 17 official lead changes between 8 of them, but a disappointing 19 cautions as well in the 130 laps, hopefully with the next visit on the calender being the high grip Memphis short track the racing will be more green and less yellow after the tricky season opener.
03 Jun 2010 - V8Thunder :
The UK based V8Thunder racing league proudly presents it's Summer 2010 season, featuring the 8th running of it's flagship NR2003 Trophy Series alongside it's brand new for 2010 Indycar Series.

Returning from the most successful season in it's history, V8Thunder Trophy Series will hope to build on it's 20+ car fields that consistently raced during the Winter. Trophy uses the Nascar Racing 2003 Season game with the Car of Tomorrow mod, an optional update is available to the present day Spoiler based Sprint Cup models, as in real life. The 12 race schedule begins 10th June 2010 at Kentucky Speedway and with races ranging from the short tracks of Memphis and Martinsville to the Super-speedways of Daytona and Indianapolis, action is guaranteed. This season will see some of the toughest tracks ever raced on the calender, as we visit Darlington and Mallory Park, providing a challenge for even the most accomplished racer. Trophy races on Thursday nights open setups with Cup physics and hardcore mode (open views), qualifying begins at 20:00 BST UK time (presently 21:00 CET - 15:00 ET).

Following the recent success of V8Thunder's Indy 200 and sporadic one off open wheel races, the league has decided to sanction a brand new Indycar Series. The series will use the an adapted version of the OWR mod. This will give each driver a six-speed, open wheel beast capable of speeds over 230 Mph. The series will run 6 rounds, each round comprising a road course followed by an oval. These races will be about 100 miles each, with the exception being the Indianapolis round, which will be 1 race for 200 miles around the Brickyard. The schedule features some of the greatest tracks from the glory days of the 1990's, including the great American road courses of Laguna Seca and Road America, the temporary circuits of Long Beach and Cleveland and classic ovals such as Milwaukee and Michigan. In order to provide a level playing field, we are running fixed setups this season with full hardcore mode (fixed cockpit views, no driving aids). The season will run Monday Nights, qualifying begins at 20:00 UK time (21:00 CET - 15:00 ET) and the action commences July 26th with Portland International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway, the delayed start to the Indycar series will allow League officials to make updates to the mod's models and tracks for an improved visual experience for competitors.

V8Thunder's iRacing based series, the Silverado Truck Series, has been placed on hiatus until the Autumn season.

01 Jun 2010 - Indycars :
Following the recent success of V8Thunder's Indy 200, the league has decided to sanction a brand new Indycar Series. The series will use a V8Thunder made Indycar mod. 24 May 2010 - V8Thunder :
In typical Indycar series fashion, the inaugural V8Thunder Indianapolis 200 saw the closest finish in V8 history with just 00.007 seconds covering the top 3 in an incredible 3 wide photo finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this evening.

Paulo Rocha took the victory with Dariusz Maksajda in second and Ian Smythe rounding out the podium.

07 May 2010 - MiniSeason II :
Round 7 of the MiniSeason was the 3/4 hours of Daytona, a road course that provided some excellent battles throughout the field. Ian Smythe reignited his championship challenge, leading the most laps on his way to victory lane. Marc van Brakel was 2nd while Filipe Caldas was 3rd, the leading member of the WTR Carmada.

The circus moved onto Kentucky Speedway for round 8, a 60 mile sprint around the popular cookie-cutter track. Van Brakel and Caldas once again took the lower steps on the podium, but Dariusz Maksajda drove his 83Team Ford to his 2nd win of the season, and with Rocha (drive through penalty) and Smythe (crash) both finishing well down the field, Maksajda has now made the contest a three way fight for the title.

The next rounds at North Wilkesboro and Twin Ring Motegi will now run on Wednesday 12th May and not Thursday, due to unforeseen circumstances. The move to Wednesday is for one week only, the final rounds still run Thursday 20th May as scheduled.
04 May 2010 - MiniSeason II :
Ian Smythe was so confident heading into the 5th race on the Mallory Mile that he thought he'd be head and shoulders above the rest, what with the home-field advantage of having built the track. However, his main rival Paulo Rocha learned the secret of Mallory as he stayed out of trouble to post his 2nd win of the miniseason, closing the gap at the top.

Ian Smythe (#06) leads Jack Keithely (#44) into Mallory's feared Turn 1.

After 38 laps of a very dark Talladega, run for the first time at V8Thunder under the lights, Jack Keithley once again drove the #44 to victory lane, the trophy champion holding off WTR's Jim Turner and Paulo Rocha to take the win. Dariusz Maksajda led the most laps but faded to finish 5th. Smythe suffered another bad race ending on his roof in 12th, allowing Rocha to leapfrog him to the top of the point standings. The battle for the championship is hotting up and with the huge prize on the line, the action will only get hotter this week on the Daytona International Speedway Road Course and Kentucky Speedway. However, some drivers will be competing with one eye on the biggest prize in open wheel racing, The V8Thunder Indy 200, May 24th.

23 Apr 2010 - MiniSeason II :
After 4 races, Ian Smythe sits at the top of the driver standings; his wins at Texas World Speedway and Lime Rock Park backed up by solid top 5's in the other rounds. He is 29 points ahead of Paulo Rocha, who has a win at Martinsville and 3 top 5's so far, having led the most laps of any driver. The returning Marc van Brakel is tied for 3rd with Dariusz Maksajda, who won the latest round at The Rock. Jim Turner rounds out the top 5.

With the next round on the Mallory Mile (AKA the house that Ian built) it's going to be tough to close the gap, but the lottery that is Talladega may even the playing field and shake up the standings. With the big prize on the line, it's all to race for.
01 Apr 2010 - Trophy :
It was just as well he already had the Trophy series sewn up, as Jack Keithley made a spectacular exit from the series finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway rolling an incredible 9 time after accidental contact with Filipe Caldas in turn 1 late in the race. He wasn't the only one as SRD-AJI's Mike Cooper also ended on his roof on the exit of turn 2 earlier in the race. WTR's Paulo Rocha had long secured the Rookie crown but still turned in an impressive 6th. The only championship still up for grabs, the Independents, went to Alex Pab who finished 12th overall beating nearest rival Ian Smythe after his engine blew on lap 23. The race was won by WTR's Jim Turner taking his second victory of the season following up his road course win at Watkins Glen earlier in the season, second home was rookie Andreas Scholz, the German WTR driver picking up his second top 3 of the season. Wojtek Rakowski finished off the Podium, the impressive Polish driver picking up a career best finish in only his 5th V8Thunder start.
31 Mar 2010 - Trucks :
Denis Razumov scored his 5th win of the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Wednesday, and in doing so secured the Rookie of the Year crown over Team Ecosse's James Ewens. The race run caution free for the first two thirds, then two late race cautions set-up for a 3 lap race to the flag, but the shoot-out lasted until Turn 1 when Jonathan Rex spun causing the big one that involved most of the field, biggest gainers from the crash included Vegas winner Darren Jervis, and Overall Champion Ian Smythe who both threaded through the carnage to pickup 2nd and 3rd respectively. Biggest loosers included Ewens and SRD International's Robert Burton who were both denied certain top 5's.
30 Mar 2010 - V8Thunder :

iRacing Truck Series:
Well, Ian Smythe just has to turn up to collect the Cups for the Truck Series Championship, his lead over Steve Smith (232 points) means he doesn't even have to turn a wheel to win. Likewise in the Independents, he leads Darren Jervis by 216 points. Team Ecosse have wrapped up the Team Championship, and England once again retain the Nations Cup.

The one title which is still active is the Rookie Championship; Denis Razumov leads James Ewens by just 2 points, with Jervis only 5 points out of first place, it's all to race for.

Nascar Racing 2003 Trophy Series:
Jack Keithley has once again dominated this season; V8Thunder's own Jimmie Johnson rolls into Homestead with a 360 point lead over team-mate Chris Hill. The #44 does seem to be quite unstoppable at the moment; fast, clean and consistent is the recipe with which JK has cooked the string of titles he has won. With his leadership, backed up by Hill and Mathieu Souphy, the SRD International drivers have won 8 races en route to the Team Championship. WTR's Paulo Rocha has come into the league and dominated the Rookie Cup, his lead of 30 points a testament to his achievement in perhaps the strongest rookie field ever. England once again retain the Nations Cup.

The one title which is still active is the Independents Cup. Ian Smythe holds a 7 point lead over Alex Pab, while Georg Gruber Jr and George Sokolowski are still mathematically in the hunt for the Indie prize.

Homestead-Miami is a favourite track among many drivers and once again is hosting the V8Thunder Finals Week; let's get ready to rumble!
24 Mar 2010 - Trucks :
Jervis rolls a double 6 in Vegas
Darren Jervis came up trumps in Las Vegas tonight, taking his maiden V8Thunder victory after 26 attempts. The Stoke-On-Trent driver stayed out on worn tyres after late race caution, the strategy meant that nobody was able to get the wave around and it left the field with 19 laps to catch the leader on his old tyres. Champion elect Ian Smythe led the charge to make up the lap difference, after 9 laps he'd taken 16 seconds off Jervis's lead, but then the Surrey driver grazed the wall exiting turn 4 and took a trip through the tri-oval grass, despite spinning back onto the track in front of Team Ecosse's Steve Smith, officials didn't throw the caution much to the relief of Jervis who was then able to cruise to victory. Smith came home second while Smythe recovered to third, pole man James Ewens finished a disappointing fourth despite leading the most laps.

Team Ecosse trio Smith, Ewens & Morten Straus have long since wrapped up the Teams title for Ecosse, and with Smythe wrapping up the Overall & Independents crown tonight, it's left to Ewens, SRD's Adam Atherton, Jervis and Btards team leader Denis Razumov to fight it out for Rookie of the Year honours at next week's finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

07 Jan 2010 - Trophy :
20 cars took the start of the opening round for the Winter 2010 Trophy Series, Thomas Cazorla bought the field to the green flag, the Frenchman taking his second career pole in only his fourth V8Thunder start.

An early yellow on Lap 10 was followed by a 59 green flag run, this including 2 green flag stops which spread out the field and caused quiet a stir with Mathieu Souphy and Chris Hill both spinning on entry and Ian Smiff, Andrew Jones and Jim Turner all having to serve drive through penalties for speeding on pit lane.

Lap 69 bought out the second caution, approaching the pits were the lap down cars of Ian Smiff and Stephen Jones, along with race leader Jack Keithley. Keithley missed his braking point and to avoid ramming Smiff spun his car into the inside wall, at the same time Jones also lost it spinning back onto the racing surface where he was collected by the #04 of John McGraw. Smiff became the main benefactor, as the caution was thrown just before he hit pit lane the Englishman aborted his stop and drove through the infield grass to get himself back onto the lead lap.

The race was restarted on lap 73 with Chris Hill leading from Paulo Rocha second, Sergey Rebrov third, Thomas Cazorla fourth, George Sokolowski fifth and Smiff in sixth with 23 laps left it was going to be hard for anybody to make it on fuel and it virtually guaranteed that another set of stop would be required.

Smiff was first to blink and "rolled the dice" by hitting pit lane on lap 80 he came out a few seconds ahead of the pack on the tail end of the lead lap, but on lap 84 the gamble paid off when the caution came out for the third time when Cazorla and Stephen Jones got together in turn 1. With all the other lead lap cars needing to pit, Smiff stayed out and inherited the lead to which he'd not be dethroned from in the 9 lap sprint to the flag, taking his seventh career and first Superspeedway win at V8Thunder. "CJ" Hill followed his fellow Southern Counties resident home in second, with pole man Thomas Cazorla third, Paulo Rocha fourth, Sergey Rebrov fifth and "Gentleman" George Sokolowski rounding out the top 6.

V8Thunder goes from the high banked, high speed Daytona to the "Lady in Black" next week at Darlington, there was no "big one" at Daytona despite a large 20 car field - will the Lady in Black be in a bad or good mood for out intrepid racers....? only time will tell.
06 Jan 2010 - Trucks :
After 4 races in the inaugural iRacing Truck series, a picture is emerging for the championship contenders to watch out for. Leading the charge is Denis Razumov with 2 wins from the 4 races to date. Taking the other two wins is his Btards fap posse team-mate Eugene Mozgunov, the Russian pairing have dominated the first quarter of the season and it remains to be seen if the best of the rest can mount a charge on the high speed, high banked Talladega Superspeedway next Wednesday.

Ian Smythe along with Team Ecosse pairing James Ewens and Steve Smith close out the top 5.
02 Dec 2009 - Trucks :
V8 rookie Denis Razumov notched up a dominating win at the Lowes Motor Speedway Wednesday evening, leading home fellow countryman Eugene Mozgunov to score Russia's first ever one-two in the V8Thunder event, Ian Smythe stole 3rd from Team Ecosse's Thomas Hendrickson at the last turn as the American was delayed trying to overcome the Russian motor train up front.

With the first half of the race running caution free, and a surprisingly low total of only 4 cautions over the 90 laps, all of the 16 drivers did an exceptional job to keep the racing clean as well as entertaining.

Next event on the iRacing Truck Series is at Phoenix next week.
19 Nov 2009 - Trophy :
Chris Hill made up for a dismal season in Inters by taking victory in the V8 Thunder World Championship showdown at Martinsville today.

Hill dominated the event with a victory in Heat 1 followed up by a second behind series rookie Paul Taylor in Heat 2.

In the final it was all about a battle between Hill and SRD team-mate Mathieu Souphy with Hill thwarting a last lap challenge from the Belgium to win by 6 tenths of a second.

Heat 2 winner Taylor was relieved of third in the final early on by Ian Smiff, who eventually finished third after 2 spins, with Jay Owen 4th, series rookie John McGraw 5th and Lites Series runner up Mike Cooper rounding out the top 6.

The next Trophy event is the non-championship race at Daytona International Speedway next Thursday.
18 Nov 2009 - Trucks :
Tight running round the big Michigan Oval, click for full size imageRookie Arron Maspero took a first blood victory in Trucks pre-season thunder at the Michigan International Speedway, Maspero held off a final turn challenge from V8 regular Martin Buchan to lead home from fellow rookie Gareth Hickling, Ian Smiff finished third, backwards, with Thomas Hendrickson rounding out the top 4 who were covered by 7 tenths of a second.

The next pre-season thunder event takes place next Wednesday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

12 Nov 2009 - Team News :
Team Ecosse have signed iRacing Division 8 Champion James Ewens for the inaugural V8Thunder iRacing Truck series. The Englishman joins fellow Brit Steve Smith, American Thomas Hendrickson and Norwegian Morten Straus to setup a 4 truck "dream team" which will undoubtedly be a strong contender for wins and the Teams title. Read More.
04 Nov 2009 - V8Thunder :
Entries are now open for the Winter 2010 iRacing Trucks and Nascar Racing 2003 Trophy series. The Truck series will start on 2nd December (2009) at the Lowes Motor Speedway with the Trophy series starting on the 7th January 2010 at the Daytona International Speedway.

Both series will run Pre-Season "Thunder" events during their regular time slots between now and then to allow drivers to familiarise themselves with the new equipment and each other.

There's no relaxing for the drivers though in the off season, with the V8Thunder World Championship "showdown" running on 19th November, the unique, standing start random grid draw event is always a popular alternative to regular testing for the V8Thunder drivers.

A few entry slots remain available for all the series at the time of press - the entry form can be found here.
03 Nov 2009 - Inters :
Inters Series Round-up – Jack Keithley completed a sweep of the major titles in Summer '09 at V8 Thunder; his Championship performance was all the more impressive as it came from only 14 starts. From these, he led all drivers in wins (5); Top 5's (12); Poles (9). There was a 194 point gap back to 2nd place Carl Sundberg; Cal led the series with starts (17); Top 10's (17) and completed laps (1661). His run for the title, though boosted by a meagre 50 penalty points, was hampered by 5 DNF's, but this did not prevent him from winning the Independent Championship. 3rd place, nearly 300 points behind Sundberg, was Andrew Jones. "AJ" only started 12 races but logged 5 top 5's and 14 top 10's on his way to the Rookie Title, his 3rd in consecutive seasons, completing a triple-crown of Lites-Trucks-Inters. Honourable mention to Chris Hill, who won 3 races and 4 poles, leading the most laps (391) but 7 DNF's and a series high 381 penalty points cost him dearly in the standings. Team Ecosse A avenged the Truck series defeat by taking the Inters Team Title by 266 over rivals SRD International. England completed a sweep of Nation's Cups', 4 of the top 10 drivers representing the “green and pleasant (but mostly raining) land”.

02 Nov 2009 - Trucks :
Trucks Season Round-up – Jack Keithley had an outstanding season at V8Thunder; his Truck series performance must rank amongst the all-time greats. He led the series in wins (11); Top 5's (14); Poles (11) and laps led (703). However, the most telling stats are points related; his 449 point margin to 2nd place is over 2 whole races ahead, while he only earned 35 penalty points over his 18 races. He has truly set the bar high for future Truck series champions to live up to, although the move to iRacing may shake up the competition from next season. Steve Smith raced to a runners-up spot in the standings; consistency was once again the key for “Smithers” as despite no wins from 17 starts, he had a series high 17 top 10's and only failed to finish one race. Ian Smiff finished 3rd in the standings, 170 points behind his “name-similar” with a win and a pole to show from his 15 starts, he easily won the Independent's Cup for the 5th season running. Honourable mention to George Sokolowski, who completed more laps than any other driver (1669, 94% of all laps). SRD International won the Team title by 115 points from Team Ecosse A, thanks mainly to Keithley with backup from Chris Hill and Mathieu Souphy. Alex Pab added the Trucks Rookie title to his Lites one to score a double in his first season at V8, an impressive start by the Russian who only picked up 15 penalty points from his 12 starts. England provided the top 3 finishers in the Trucks championship and once again took the Nations Cup.
