IndyCar to award double points for 500 miles races.
How convenient for them that the season finale is one.
F1 style douchebaggery

Yea, too bad if the cars don't travel, it looks pitiful imo lol

Now they're discussing the race lengths in the media again, jeez.
http://msn.foxsports.com/nascar/story/s ... ascaronfox

And while I agree with Johnson that scaling back on schedule to maybe 31-34 races would be a good move, I think shortening race lengths is unacceptable.
If this is NASCAR's solution to lack of excitement, then there's no hope anymore.

If I was an owner, I'd fire Hamlin and Newman sympathizing with the idea of shortening distances.
Hamlin said:"Some of the 500-mile races we have are extremely long and, obviously, I'm open to shortening just about anything."

Aaaawwwwww, you poor little sissy

These guys have hit the walls once too many times, I tell ya.
Did they forget that this is the cup series?
If anything races should be longer on average, i.e. Dover should have a 500 miler again, so should Pocono, Glen should have 10 laps added also.
If they keep shortening races, it's not gonna help filling the stands.

I bet the way theyre gonna do it is replace tracks with different ones and put in a shorter distance i.e. bring back the Rock and let them run just 300 laps

Concrete King Carl however scoring big time with me again.

Carl Edwards wrote:
"Hell no. No. Longer is better," Edwards said when asked if races should be shortened. "... My opinion is that it is supposed to be a test of man and machine. People pay good money for the tickets and ought to make an afternoon out of it. To me, I don't know, I guess some people might be jaded that come to the race track every week and only think about going home but for me racing, to finish a 500 miler somewhere that is special. That is what NASCAR is about to me. It is supposed to take a whole afternoon."

I like that attitude, give Bristol a thousand lapper!

I'd fire Johnson too though I guess for seriously suggesting 25 races. He obviously does not wanna be there.
I'd only suggest a decrease in races to adjust to the negative growth over the last years, however, just to be clear, I think there should be a races every week, it's just not possible.

Adapt to your audience or die, NASCAR's target demography will not sit through a 4 hour race anymore, most people I know struggle to sit still through a 20 minute touring car race, let alone a 1 hour pre-race show followed by 4 hours of race coverage.

For once it's not Brian France's fault, society is so driven by instant immediate information that people have forgotten how to enjoy something, they're trying to adapt, either that or there won't be a NASCAR in a decade or so.

I'd rather see NASCAR die then, that's how stubborn I am on this one

What you bring up may be partly right, but I think it is more that they get to see 4 hours of pretty low quality racing when you compare it to what it once was.
Just watched half the 1998 coke 600 the other day, and by doing so you alsways get reminded how NASCAR has declined across the board.

NASCAR got way too dependent on huge amounts of sponsorship money.
And of course, if the cashflow is all they care about, then getting as many people as possible to watch may seem neccessary for them. They just pushed it too far while at the same time ruining the series.
Really the easiest way to fix it all is to go back in time 15 years, except for safety stuff.
And I also think the should get rid of roof flaps and stuff at plate tracks. Folks wanna see cars flip every once in a while, and if there's everything is paved, a flip ain't a big deal anyway.

The flip isn't a big deal until the car ends up in the grandstand, then you say goodbye to the sport as you know it.

Despite what it says on the tickets, NASCAR has a duty of care to it's patrons (spectators and competitors), by taking the roof flaps off even I could argue in a Court that they knowingly removed a safety feature that prevent accidents, thus were liable for the consequences.

Race behind closed doors then, I hear you say - that doesn't remove the liability to duty of care, as you still have the drivers and team employees who's family would sue NASCAR out of existence if their loved ones were killed as a result of NASCAR removing a specific safety feature.

You know me, I hate change, hate safety features and hate the burning desire of society to have instant results/gratification nowadays, but even I can see if the series wants to continue in the vien it has become accustomed to, it has to adapt to the desires of it's core market, that market is no longer us, but the 16 to 25 age market with plently of disposable income to spend on their favourite drives merchandise - the last time I bought racing related 'merchandise' was a Senna S t-shirt in 1992 ( stillhave it lol), my 88 ssweet shirt isn't really mine but a present to the wife from her sister, so I am not the market NASCAR is interest in pleasing now ;)

Blow off some steam on the state of NASCAR racing and FOX broadcasting in this FOX survey:
http://foxs.pt/PzgJJd

Don't click on non US when asked for zip code, it'll end the survey for you, just enter a fake one.

Really blasted Mike Joy in this one, hope he gets fired

Yeah F1 is worse that's true.

Wonder what they're gonna do about them engine. Would hate to see them make them smaller, but spacers and shit ain't popular solution either.
They shouldn't mess too much with them engine though

Yea, quite a bummer, I hope they can start the thing tonight.
NASCAR sure knows how to schedule their events so they hit rain 50 % of the time.

Man, those ads on TSN are even more brain-damaging than on FOX :wall:

And what about these KFC social media things there? Are there people really feeding this trash to their kids?

And this liberty mutual mid race report, holy moses, so boring every time.

NASCAR's gotta be kidding. The let the race run when Kahne literally took a foot off his car width, but now they wave the caution for a tire rubbing on the #22?
It's like a McDonald's worker spitting into the burger right in front of the customer.

Mooooooooooooooooooo!
Someone on fb said Cup will go to Elkart Lake in '15,
Wonder what they're gonna replace. Anyway, I'm sure they're gonna make the wrong call as usual.
If they take away a race from Dover, I'll probably lose it

I remember last year they were talking about Sprint Cup cars going to Road Atlanta. They have encountered good experiences with Nationwide at Road Atlanta.
